Welcome to Erewhon
In collaboration with Stéphane Degoutin and Gwenola Wagon
Based on a novel by Samuel Butler, Welcome to Erewhon is a fable about human life in a world where automation has been fantasised to the extreme. Work as we know it has disappeared. Factories produce everything we need to live. Storage and handling are outsourced to automatic warehouses outside the city. Automatic farms grow and process plants and animals. Automatic vehicles deliver food. Softwares optimise the system. Residents are relieved of work and, massaged by robots, can devote themselves to an everlasting play. GPS-equipped cats explore gardens. Automatic vacuum cleaners awaken with sensuality.
A new sort of city emerges from images circulating on the internet.
The eleven chapters, each accompanied by a text, are compiled into a 52-minute film. They can be viewed on the platform Welcome to Erewhon.
